Exploring the Trends of Aging in Place

The experts of HME and home health industries believe that most seniors prefer their golden years in their home. Earlier, an AARP survey conducted also stated that in 2014, around 87 percent of people above 65 wanted to age at home rather than any other place. However, when it comes to aging in place, it is not as easy as it seems. There are several issues that they may encounter that create obstacles to making their home a safe place for seniors

Preventing Falls

Falls in seniors are most common when they stay alone. The major concern is to adapt the home environment to make sure seniors move freely in their homes. According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 2.8 million seniors are treated every year for fall-related injuries. In 2015, the whole treatment in the United States cost $50 billion with Medical shouldering, which is 75% of the total cost.

The senior vice President of MobileHelp Healthcare, Chris A. Otto, also stated that fall prevention is risk assessment. If you or your loved one is at risk of falling, it is suggesting to devise a strategy around.

Home Modification

Making small changes in your home can also help seniors aging in place. As home remodeling is expensive, it may put homeowners off making the changes. Today, the aging industry is campaigning for the Senior Accessible Housing act (check below image). According to this, HR 1780 people of over 60 years of age who modify their home to recoup $30,000 tax credit at filing time. If we can reduce 20 percent of falls through home modification, we will pay back a tax break that the feds give.
